SafePublicWifi™ App Support
Your Guide to Secure Connectivity
Welcome to the SafePublicWifi™ support page! We’re dedicated to ensuring you have a seamless and secure experience with our app, powered by QState Cyber Security. Here, you’ll find answers to common questions, helpful tips, and ways to get in touch with our support team.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is SafePublicWifi™?
SafePublicWifi™ is a mobile application developed by QState Cyber Security that helps you find and connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots that have been rigorously verified for security and reliability. Our goal is to provide you with peace of mind against common cyber threats when connecting to public networks.
2. How does SafePublicWifi™ verify hotspots?
Our cybersecurity experts at QState Cyber Security employ a multi-layered verification process, including security audits, network analysis, and ongoing monitoring, to ensure that listed hotspots meet our stringent safety standards. Verified hotspots are marked with a green ‘Verified’ badge in the app.
3. Why is my location needed?
Your location is essential for SafePublicWifi™ to identify and display nearby verified hotspots on the map. We use your device’s location services to provide you with the most relevant and accurate information. Your location data is used solely for this purpose within the app.
4. How do I get directions to a hotspot?
When you tap on a verified hotspot marker on the map, a ‘Directions’ icon will appear. Tapping this icon will allow you to get turn-by-turn navigation to the hotspot’s location using your preferred navigation app (Google Maps or Apple Maps).
5. What does ‘Open’, ‘WPA’, ‘WPA2’, or ‘WPA3’ mean for a hotspot’s security level?
These terms refer to the encryption protocols used by the Wi-Fi network:
Open: No encryption. Data sent over this network can be easily intercepted. We strongly recommend using a VPN if connecting to an open network.
WPA/WPA2/WPA3: These are encryption standards that protect your data. WPA3 is the most secure and recommended standard, offering enhanced encryption and protection against advanced attacks. WPA2 is still widely used and provides good security, while WPA is an older, less secure standard. Always prioritize connecting to networks secured with WPA3 or WPA2, and ensure you’re connecting to a trusted source.
6. Why do I need to enable “Access WiFi Information” for the app?
This permission allows SafePublicWifi™ to see details about the Wi-Fi network you are connected to. This is crucial for the app to assess the network’s safety and provide you with relevant security insights and recommendations. Without this, the app cannot fully perform its core function of helping you connect safely.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you encounter any issues while using SafePublicWifi™, try these simple solutions:
Map Not Loading or Appears Blank:
Ensure your device has a stable internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular data).
Verify that Location Services are enabled for the SafePublicWifi™ app in your device’s settings. (Go to your device’s Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, and make sure SafePublicWifi™ is set to “While Using the App” or “Always”).
Hotspots Not Appearing:
Check your internet connection.
Confirm that Location Services are enabled for the app (as described above).
Try using the search bar to look for Wi-Fi hotspots in specific locations.
Make sure the ‘Show Safe Only’ filter (the green shield icon on the map) is toggled correctly based on whether you want to see only verified hotspots or all available hotspots.
Navigation Not Launching:
Ensure you have either the Google Maps app or Apple Maps app installed on your device. The app will try to open one of these for directions.
App Crashing or Freezing:
Try closing the app completely and reopening it.
Ensure your device’s operating system is up to date.
If the problem continues, please contact our support team with details about your device and what you were doing when the issue occurred.
